Thiel-Massard Typeface Revival

About the project
This project explores the revival and reinterpretation of the historic “Thiel-Massard” lettering, originally found on the façade of a former pottery factory in Luxembourg. The original lettering was carefully studied and reconstructed, with each character developed through a geometric process based on circles, triangles, and squares.
The final typeface preserves the distinctive character of the original inscription while giving it a more modern, structured, and functional appearance. Particular attention was given to the rounded strokes, proportions, decorative forms, and overall visual rhythm of the lettering.
The project combines historical research, typography, geometric construction, and visual documentation, turning a small piece of Luxembourg's industrial heritage into a contemporary typographic system.
Challenge
Recreate the historic Thiel-Massard lettering while preserving its original character and connection to Luxembourg’s industrial heritage.
Approach
I studied the original lettering and rebuilt each character using simple geometric forms, refining proportions, rounded strokes, and decorative details to create a modern and functional typeface
